Wireless Phones becoming essential for teens
For many teens, wireless phones have become an essential tool for living rather than just convenient communications devices according to a study released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).
The study surveyed thirty-six youths between the ages of 10 and 19 who were invited to record their phone usage and related experiences over the course of 7 days in their own private blogs.

Cell Phone Cloning Surges
Illegal copying of cell phones in South Korea has quadrupled this year, according to a Ministry of Information and Communication report released Wednesday. Authorities seized 4,718 pirated handsets in the first eight months of this year, up from 858 for all of last year, it said.
The statistics were submitted to the National Assembly as part of an annual parliamentary inspection.

As of this summer all Wind clients with i-mode mobile phones will have the possibility to customise their mobile with music videos and current chart hits. In fact, in connecting to Wind's i-mode portal (www.imusic.it) it is possible to download popular music videos and set them as ring tones. I-mode mobiles can also be customised with the current chart topper's music video, cartoon characters, exotic animated landscapes with soothing music, as well as game demos, sport, and much more. When connecting to the i-mode portal the ring tones, logos and images and games categories can be directly accessed, and content provider sites which offer exclusive content can be searched. The cost of the service is equal to the site registration price, from 0 to 3 euros, plus the contents' download cost.

Gorillaz Give Virgin Mobile Customers
Virgin Mobile USA and EMI Music's Virgin Records today announced that animated ringtones, real-music ringtones and wallpapers from the Gorillaz platinum album, "Demon Days," will be available exclusively on Virgin Mobile phones in the U.S. through its First Dibs program. The deal gives Virgin Mobile customers a way to stay connected to music's one-and-only cartoon super group right on their mobile phones.
Also available for purchase are non-exclusive ringtone tracks from Gorillaz, including the #1 modern rock radio hit "Feel Good Inc." -- which recently won two MTV Video Music Awards, one for "Breakthrough Video" and another for "Best Special Effects in a Video." Viewers of the MTV Video Music Awards also saw Virgin Mobile's new TV ads supporting this latest "First Dibs" offer.

Napster tunes into mobile ringtones
Napster is to enter the mobile-phone ringtone market next year, launching their own brand service on the back of mobile content delivery company Dwango Mobile. The announcement comes after U.S. market-watcher PJ McNealy of American Technology Research (ATR) downgraded parent company Roxio's stock from Hold to Sell.
The Dwango deal will see the formation next year of Napster Mobile, a service pitched at North American consumers, initially selling ringtones, but presumably with music downloads in mind when the bandwidth is there to make it practical.
